Retirement is great.
My husband and I have headed to Kern River Valley for a slow and easy life with no traffic, no pollution, very little crime and lovely weather all year in Wofford Heights. We live in an old fashioned brown home with granite fireplace which could have been in 19th century in days of old. The people here are mostly retired senior citizens living very quiet lives but almost always friendly and ready with a smile. We still stay active working and walking along the lake and campgrounds up here. So very picturesque with pine trees and oaks along the way. Also many cottonwood trees, which are native up here. The wild life is abundant here and if you start out at daybreak you will most likely catch a glimpse of cottontail rabbits, young deer, squirrels and maybe a raccoon. Winter up here is much colder than what we are used to. Thunder storms frequently make their way to the valley and can be frightening with loud thunder claps and streaks of lightning across the sky. The only problem with that is dry lightning which has been known to start forest fires. But this is a life-long pattern of nature, burning the underbrush to make way for young new saplings and foilage of the forest.
